Kevin Magnussen shined in his first F1 race on Sunday in Melbourne. A third place that fully meets the McLaren driver, and ideally launches its season.
Kevin Magnussen (McLaren – 3rd):
“It is not a victory but it’s a victory. The team had a difficult season and she really wanted to return to the top. Everyone worked hard for it this winter.
Working with a rookie that has not been obvious to them, but they did everything to make me feel at home. I could not have been happier. We did not know what to expect before departure, but it happened nothing serious”.
Fernando Alonso (Ferrari – 5th):
“We are not satisfied with our performance level, we need to improve. I was not able to fight with McLaren for the podium and Kimi was stuck between the two Toro Rosso. But this is only the first race, so do not get carried away. We know that we must work. There were concerns before the race but we managed to finish the GP without too many problems. There are positive and negative things. We still managed a solid race.”
L. Hamilton: I’m Disappointed But We Rebondirons.
The Season Is Still Very long
Bottas (Williams – 6th):
The car worked very well and it is very encouraging for the rest of the season. We have made great progress over the last year. I’m a little disappointed because I made a mistake by touching a wall, causing a puncture and made me lose places. I spent the rest of the race trying to catch me and I could make some good passes. It’s nice to be able to fight with the best and I want to thank the team for that.”
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes – Abandonment):
“My start was not well, I had much less power than usual. This meant that there was a problem. Apparently only 5 of 6 cylinders working. I wanted to continue despite that, but it was better to play it safe and protect the engine. It’s unfortunate but that’s racing. We have a good car, good engine, Nico (Rosberg) proved. I congratulate him and the entire team is a great result. I am disappointed but we rebondirons. The season is still very long.”
